A Surprise from Maersk

When we got home from a trip, there was a package on the porch from MAERSK!  It had special Maersk packing tape and the postmark was from Denmark!!
It had stuff like books, cards, CDs, hat, and a letter. I had written the company a letter a few months ago and they sent this cool package to me in response.

 It was awesome!

The Oakland Container Port

We went to Myth Busters territory, or the Oakland container port.  There were 3 small container ships there.  We didn't see a Maersk ship but we did find about 50-80 Maersk containers.  We couldn't get very close though.  Mom says we will try again next time.

Danish Architecture ~ Part 1

This is the Maersk Headquarters.  I first saw it when my family and I took a canal tour in Copenhagen in May 2011.  I thought it was a very cool building.  I liked all the windows and how they reflected the water.  The interpreter on the boat said, "On the port side of the boat you can see the Maersk Headquarters, the world's largest shipping company.  It was started by Maersk McKinney Møller."
I really like ships and trains.  When we were in Denmark, the Lego company (a Danish company) also had a Maersk train that was really cool looking.  I love the color blue.  I also liked the word Maersk so that is how I first learned of them.  [You can see the train in my blog header.]

The Copenhagen Opera House (in Danish it is usually called Operaen) is the national opera house of Denmark, and it is very cool looking.  It is located on the island of Holmen in central Copenhagen.  It is one of the most expensive opera houses ever built and the money was donated by Maersk McKinney Møller.
I like buildings and architecture.  I will write more about some cool buildings in Denmark another time.

Minecraft

I love to play Minecraft on my iPad.  I also love Legos.  I built this Minecraft world with Legos.  My mom says it is better than the one that Lego sells now.

Dunsmuir Railroad Days

My mom & dad surprised us with a trip to Dunsmuir for Railroad Days.  We stayed in a caboose for 2 nights.  It was awesome!

There was a creek behind our caboose. Nearby was a pile of cobblestone. My sister and I took some of that cobblestone to build a dam.  It actually held back so much water that you could see the difference. It held back so much water it actually started flooding the grass up stream of our dam.

We also went to a little railroad museum.  It had a very detailed HO scale layout of the Dunsmuir railroad turntable. I got to ride on an Union Pacific Engine as it turned around on the turntable.

I also got to ride on a speeder car up the track a short distance.  It was fun!

When I was walking on the tracks to see the engines, I found a real railroad spike!

I had a lot of fun at the Dunsmuir Railroad Days.

The Blue Pearl

I made this boat.  It is called the "The England Borrower Blue Pearl".  It is inspired by "The Black Pearl".  Jack Sparrow stands on the platform next to the pirate flag.

My Maersk Party

I had a Maersk themed birthday party.  My mom planned fun games to help us learn about container ships.  She also made a phone call and the Maersk company sent 3 packages full of stuff!  There were hats, t-shirts, lanyards, tennis balls, notebooks, pens, back-scratchers,  clip magnets, squishy boats, a tin of cookies, 2 cool table flags, 4 posters, a calendar, and a ruler.   My mom used the squishy boats to help her make the cake.

Testing the cargo capacity of my ship
There was a storm at sea and my ship lost it's cargo
One of the things we did was build ships with aluminum foil.  Then we used Jenga blocks as containers and marbles for more weight.  We tested to see whose boat could carry the most cargo.  My sisters was the best.  It held 4.0 lbs of cargo.

I love my cake!
It was a great party!  We all had a lot of fun.
It helped the other kids learn about Maersk.

Thank you, Fran and all the people at Maersk
who helped make this the best birthday ever!
